South Carolina Medicare Supplement Plan G - The "Value" Plan For instant help with your Medicare Supplement insurance, fill out a South Carolina Medicare Insurance Supplement quotes request. If you have been on Medicare a while or looked in to the South Carolina Medicare Supplement plans much, you, by now, probably understand that all Medicare Supplement companies are required to offer the exact same, Federally-standardized plans. This is extremely important to know and understand, as it greatly impacts how you compare coverage/rates and make a Medicare Supplement plan decision. br> There are currently, as of 2009, 12 standardized plans, and each plan has their own unique set of benefits. To see the benefits of each plan: Standardized Medicare Supplement plans chart While Plan F is the most talked-about (and possibly, the most popular) plan in many areas, including South Carolina, the Medicare Supplement Plan G is an oft-forgotten plan that, in most cases, offers an equal or better value. Premiums are lower for Medicare Supplement Plan G (anywhere from 10-30% with most companies), which means extra money each month in your pocket. There are some moderately significant differences between 'G' and 'F':
The math on the first difference is pretty simple to do. If Plan G is less than $11-12/month than Plan F, then it becomes a better value based on this difference. The second difference is a little more difficult to determine. The Part B Excess charges come in to play when a doctor does not accept Medicare "assignment" for their services. In most areas of the country, including South Carolina, this is extremely rare. You can always check with your doctors to confirm, but most do accept "assignment". In the rare instance that they don't, you are usually looking at very small excess charges, of which the plan still pays 80%. The third difference in Plan G is the additional benefit of "At Home Recovery". While not everyone uses this benefit, it is a good benefit to have, and only two Medicare Supplement plans (G and J) currently offer this benefit. To summarize, Plan F is definitely the option for you IF you strictly want to eliminate your out of pocket costs and know that you will not have any deductibles or co-pays. However, if you can handle a once-a-year $135 deductible and that math works out on the plans you are comparing, don't let an agent talk you into Plan F just because it is "full" coverage. Do the math yourself and choose the plan that is the best "value" for you, which in many cases, is South Carolina Medicare Supplement Plan G.
